UCD AFC Media Officer Conor McCarthy with a review of Friday’s game against Sligo Rovers.
Match Preview: UCD AFC vs Sligo Rovers
Kick off: 7.45pm, Friday 20th September, UCD Bowl
Friday night sees our return to Premier Division action as we host Sligo Rovers in the UCD Bowl. It’s just two weeks on from when Sligo beat us 4-0 in the quarter final of the Extra.ie FAI Cup and they will coming to the UCD Bowl confident of picking up the three points. However, Maciej is pleased with how his side performed last week against St Patrick’s Athletic and is hopeful of taking that good performance into this week.
“I thought we were very solid defensively, didn’t give them many chances, and then created some good half chances particularly in the second half, when perhaps we could have won it late on. The result has given the players confidence and belief, and we will look to build on that on Friday night.”
Evan Osam, Josh Collins, and Sean McDonald will all continue to miss out through injury. Gavin Sheridan will also miss out after picking up an injury in training. Jack Keaney and Liam Kerrigan are both unavailable for selection under the terms of their transfer from Sligo Rovers during the window in July. Paul Doyle successfully made his return from his broken foot last week against St Patrick’s Athletic, completing 80 minutes, with Mark Dignam also making his return from injury in that game, and both will be available for selection once more.
To celebrate the start of the new college year, there will be free entry to the game for all UCD Students when they show their UCD Student Card at the turnstiles when entering the ground.
Our Leinster Senior Cup game against Crumlin United has also been confirmed for Tuesday 24th September at 7.45pm in the UCD Bowl.
