Long time UCD Fans will remember Midfielders Gary Dicker (2004 -2007) and Paul Corry (2009 – 2012) who played at different periods with UCD but both were to an English league club directly from The College. Striker Conor Sammon (2005 – 2007) went to Derry City before moving to Scotland then England and the Republic of Ireland Senior squad.
All three are with clubs that are competing in the Emirates FA Cup today Saturday 07th November.
Paul Corry – Northampton Town
After signing a three year contract with Sheffield Wednesday in 2012 and short loan spells at Tranmere Rovers and Carlisle Utd. at the end of last year, Paul has already appeared for Sheffield Wed. in the FA Cup in 2012. Paul moved to League Two and The Cobblers at the start of this season.
FA Cup 1st Rd., Coventry City v. Northampton Town, Ricoh Arena, ko 15:00
League One , 4th place Coventry City used Northampton’s ground Sixfields Stadium for over a year until Sept 2014 as they were is disagreement with the owners of Ricoh Arena. It’s a tough ask for Town to get a result.
Gary Dicker – Carlisle United
Gary has had made a go of it in England and is in his second season with Carlisle Utd. After first joining League One’s Stockport County from UCD in 2007. Gary appeared for County in the FA Cup and scored with a header in a replay against Yeovil Town. Stockport were challenging for promotion in 2008/09 but finances caught up with them and Gary moved on loan to struggling League One Brighton and Hove Albion in the spring of 2009 to reduce their wage bill. Stockport went into receivership that year, were docked ten points and lost more Players off the first team. Brighton ended up two points higher then Stockport by the end of the season. True Story
Better times were to come when B&H Albion lifted the League One Championship in 2010/11. Gary stayed with Albion for two more years as they played out of the newly built Amex stadium (Falmer Stadium). In two seasons in the Championship he made 17 starts and 1 sub. apps in 2011/12 and 12 starts and 11 sub appearances in 2012/13. Also competing in the FA Cup in the years he was with the Seagulls. With his move to League Two Rochdale he was part of a promotion push and a cup run to the 4th Round after wins against Rotherham Utd. and Leeds Utd. But in January Gary chose League One’s Crawley Town with Manager John Gregory to be nearer his family.

But Gary had to move back up north at the beginning of 2014/15 season when he moved to League Two Carlisle Utd. Again he competed in the FA Cup last year, representing his fourth club in this competition.
1st round, FA Cup, Plymouth Argyle v. Carlisle Utd., Home Park, Sat. 07th November 15:00
This is a 389 mil one way (778 Miles round-trip) for Carlisle Utd. against top of the table Plymouth. It’ll be a tough game for Carlilse.
Conor Sammon – Derby County on loan Sheffield Utd.
Conor is on the books of Derby and loaned out to League One Sheff. Utd. where he’s chipping in with the goals. He moved to Derry City after leaving UCD. Moving to Kilmarnock in Scottish Premier Division in 2008. Scoring against Glasgow Celtic will always make you enemies in the sensitive Football circles in Ireland
Conor has shown the way that hard-work and perseverance are a route to success in Football. He moved south to English Premier Division Wigan Athletic, then to Championship Derby County where he was awarded nine Senior International caps under Republic of Ireland manger Giovanni Trapattoni “quality is quality” . While at Derby County he has had season-long loan spells with Ipswich Town (under Mick McCarthy), Rotherham Utd and presently Sheffield Utd.
1st Round, FA Cup, Sheffield Utd. v. Worcester City, Brammall Lane, Sat. 07th Nov. ko 15:00
Worcester shocked in the FA Cup last year, so The Blades need to be on their guard but if everyone shows up on the day they shouldn’t have much trouble in the next round.
Best of luck to the three lads and their teams in today’s games.

Emirates FA Cup 2nd round
The second round brought the same measure of success with all three players’ clubs advancing to the Third round where Premier league and Championship Clubs are introduced.
Northampton Town 3:2 Northwich Victoria
Again Northampton made the headlines when 0-2 into the last seven minutes the scored 3 goals in 4 minutes and could have added to that scoreline. Paul wasn’t in the squad.
Sheffield Utd. 1:0 Oldham Athletic
Tough match against fellow League One Latics. Conor came on with five minutes to play for goal scorer matt Done, att. 6,938. Over 4,000 less than the first round against Worcester City.
Welling 0:5 Carlisle Utd.
Great result as Carlisle home ground Brunton Park is under 4 foot of water after flooding in the area from heavy rains. Gary came on in the 68 minute when Utd. were already 4-0 up. Hopefully happier times to come at Brunton Park, but that will have to wait as carlisle are playing their first home league game of the year at Ewood Park in Blackburn.

Notts County at Preston NE and Plymouth Argyle at Blackburn Rovers. Gary has scored against Yeovil for Stockport County in an FA Cup in the 2008 1st round replay. The Cumbrians would be hopeful of getting to the fourth round.
Sat 09th Jan Northampton Town v. MK Dons, Sixfields ko 15:00
Paul is out with a long-term knee injury and UCD FANS wish him the best of luck in his recovery. Northampton host MK Dons two Divisions above them. They took out Coventry City in round one, have gone through non-payment of Players wages, warnings that the club would fold and a sale to a new owner. The mind might be clearer when they take the field against them in January.
Best of Luck to the three guys and their teams.

Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round, Carlisle Utd. 0: 3 Everton FC
Gary Dicker’s FA Cup journey came to an end as two goals at the beginning of the first half was more than enough for The Toffees.
CUFC Manager Keith Curle made changes at Half-time and Dicker was substituted. It’s been an unforgettable campaign for CUFC who played 3rd Rd. away from Brunton Park because of the flooding in Cumbria.
There could be new beginnings for Gary soon as Kilmarnock FC have been given permission to speak to him about a transfer.
