My job at UCD

Last October I went to UCD to begin my work experience. My first day was supposed to be a game against Shamrock Rovers on Monday 24th of October 2011 in which if  Shamrock Rovers won they would win the League unfortunately it lashed rain that day so the game was called off, so  I had to take all the gear down again. The game went on the following night and after me and another lad doing work experience called Darragh had finished doing the gear we went over to the pre match meal. About a half an hour before kick off Philip Bourke called us over and look after the ball boys. UCD were unfortunate not to get something from the match as Dean Kelly scored the winner in stoppage time after Robbie Benson equalised for the students. The following week I travelled to Sligo with the team, the lads were very nice for most of the trip I just listened to my iPod and chatted with the players and staff. Even though we lost to Sligo it was still a great trip and I’ve been on many trips since such as Derry, Dundalk and Sligo again. I was looking forward to a trip to Monaghan next week but unfortunately they’ve pulled out of the League.

I’ve also enjoyed working with the Leinster Senior League teams the job does’nt change a lot. I also enjoyed the photography I did with club photographer Ed Scannell. I’m delighted I kept up my role and really enjoying it. I’m dreading giving it up in September.

  1. Nice article JD.
What are some of your duties on Matchday?
    When do you begin?

And do you have any duties outside of Matchday?

    Thanks
    Stephen

  2. I usually arrive at the bowl at about half 4. for home games and some of my duties are laying out jumpers and tee shirts for the warm up, hanging up heresies shorts and socks, filling up water bottles and bringing extra water and lucosade into the dressing room. After the game I count the gear to make sure it’s all there and hang up any spare gear and I’m usually finished by a quarter to 11.
