UCD AFC Media Officer Conor McCarthy with an update on player availability for tonight’s game.
Match Preview: UCD AFC vs Shamrock Rovers
Kick-off: 7.45pm, UCD Bowl, Friday 17 May
Friday night will see the return of Premier Division football to the UCD Bowl, as Shamrock Rovers are the visitors in a Dublin derby! It has been a busy few weeks at the UCD Bowl, as we have hosted five games already in the UEFA European Under 17 Championships over the last two weeks with the final game coming late this afternoon as we are delighted to host the semi-final of this prestigious competition with the Netherlands facing Spain at 4.30pm. Speaking ahead of Friday night’s game, Collie knows his side will be up against it against a strong in form Shamrock Rovers side.
“We know it’s going to be a difficult game. Shamrock Rovers have been flying so far this season playing some great football. After completing the pro-licence with Stephen, he was one of the stand out candidates on the course and it’s no surprise his team are competing for the league title this year, they have been by far the best team we have played.”
It has been a tough few weeks for us, with some difficult games, in what has historically been a tough period for us with the players having the added pressures of their end of year exams and the increased work load that brings on them. However with those close to coming to an end now, Collie’s side will be looking forward to getting players back available over the coming weeks and to get back to the way they know they can play and start picking up results and moving back up the table.
Evan Osam will be missing for Friday night’s game, as he continues his recovery after rupturing his achillies on the eve of the season. Collie O’Neill will also be without Timmy Molloy, Luke Boore, Dan Tobin and Kevin Coffey due to exam commitments. There are no suspensions for the game.
