SSE Airtricity League Attendances
Earlier this month the Airtricity League published figures of attendances for the first ten weeks of the 2017 season. The figures don’t make happy reading for UCD Fans as the Official figures show the first five home league matches at the UCD Bowl.

With the first five games (Shelbourne Fri 03rd Mar, Waterford Fri 10th Mar., Longford Town Sat 24th Mar., Athlone Town Sat. 08th Apr., Cabinteely Fri. 14th Apr.). The above figures don’t include unofficial headcounts for Wexford Fri 05th May (180 att) and Fri. 19th May Cobh Ramblers (182 att.).
Our First Division attendances figures have been slowly slipping downwards since we were relegated at the end of 2014. Extratime.ie the online football website publishes unofficial figures based on their own reporters estimates.
Extratime.ie’s unofficial attendance for 2016 report UCD’s 14 home game had a total aggregate of 4151 with an average per game of 297
For many years UCD AFC have publicised our Home games through posters around Belfield and suburbs, home website, match programme notes, Press Releases, email circulations, publicity online platforms like facebook and twitter, Summer Camps and. The Football Club can keep Fans informed of Club News and upcoming events, the UCD AFC Supporters Club assists UCD AFC in many of these ventures, either replicating the message or providing our own take on events. It’s hoped that these efforts UCD Fans and those sympathetic to UCD AFC are kept informed and feel close to the club.
Fair Play to all UCD Fans who regularly come to the UCD Bowl, you know what you like. The Supporters Club really appreciate your time and support for the Football Club, it’s very special to be able to gather together and watch some of the best talent in the country and they play for us, for our team. But with attendances slipping as a Fan base there’s always one more thing that we can do to help pass the word about Home games.
What more can the Supporters Club do?: The SC can act as a central point for individual Fans to present ideas to publicise Home games. We want to involve Supporters more in providing their skills and resources to publicise UCD Home matches.
Ideas for the Supporters Club: The Supporters Club could send out email circulations more regularly specific to the Home games, even if this risks annoying some recipients getting more emails.
The Football Club already produces Match-day posters, the SC can forward those on Members so those individuals a can share them. Better still the Supporters Club can invite UCD FANS to forward their own design for Home games. The next home game SSE Airtricity League, Fri June 16th, UCD AFC v Shelbourne, UCD Bowl, ko 19:45.
What can UCD FANS do to attract fans through the turnstiles at The UCD Bowl? Members of the SC already know the enjoyment of watching Football at UCD Bowl, as Fans how can we spread the word to family, friends, colleagues, neighbours and other acquaintances to be part of the occasion? We can invite lapsed Fans back to the Bowl, Fans who were regulars in other seasons but have slipped out of the habit of coming to The Bowl. Lets invite them back by letting them know when we play.
When the UCD team are playing at their best there is no better sight in Irish Football than watching another sweeping forward move towards the opposition goal on a sunny Summer’s evening in Belfield. As Football fans we have a duty to that share that experience with as many other Fans as possible.
