The Norway Football Federation website has announced that Sweden, Norway and Finland National Associations finished in the top three in UEFA’s Fair Play ranking for  seaspon 2012/13 (May 01st  – April 30th.)

UEFA har tre Fair Play-plasser i kvalifiseringsspillet til Europa League som deles ut til de tre beste nasjonene på UEFAs Fair Play-ranking. Onsdag offentliggjorde de hvilke nasjoner som får tildelt en ekstra plass i Europa League kommende sesong.  

Gledelig nok havnet Norge på 2.plass på listen, bak Sverige og foran Finland.

For Norges del betyr det at Tromsø får plassen. Gutan havnet på 2.plass på den norske Fair Play-tabellen bak Molde, som naturlig nok var kvalifisert til Champions League-kvalik gjennom gullet i Tippeligaen.

– Fair Play er et viktig satsingsområde for NFF, så dette er en anerkjennelse som norsk fotball setter høyt. I tillegg får enda et lag matching internasjonalt, noe som er viktig for utviklingen av norsk fotball, sier toppfotballsjef Nils Johan Semb til fotball.no.

UEFA has three Fair Play places in qualifying for the Europa League tournament,  which is awarded to the top three nations in the UEFA Fair Play ranking. On Wednesday it was announced the nations that are awarded an extra place in the Europa League next season.

Pleasing enough Norway landed in 2nd place on the list, behind Sweden and Finland before.

In Norway, it means that Tromsø IL is the place. Gutan[Nickname for Tromsø IL] ended up in 2nd place on the Norwegian Fair Play table behind Molde, which naturally enough has qualified for the Champions League qualification through the gold in the Premier League.

UEFA’s Respect Fair Play Award works as one club from each of those countries will now compete in the 2013/14 Europa League.  The domestic Fair Play ranking Table is a separate list to the match results table that football fans know by heart.  The criteria for Fair Play table include positive play, respect for the opposition, Respect for the referee and of team officials, behaviour of the crowd aswell as cautions and dismissals.  Points are awarded at every domestic game for club to be awarded at the end of the domestic season.

At a similar time (May 01st -April 30th) UEFA are assessing matches under their control at Club and Country level, using the same Fair Play criteria.  From under-age competitive matches to club tournaments like UEFA Champions League and Europa League, including qualifiers.

UEFA publish an interim list in early January and a final list in early May.  The top three Countries from the UEFA final list then put forward their Fair Play representatives from the domestic Fair Play list.  What can happen,as happened in Norway a team has already qualified for Europe so the next team on the domestic list is put forward.

UCD AFC Fair Play 

UCD AFC have an excellent FAIR Play record,  The Students won the Airtricity League Premier Division Fair Play award for 2012

UCD had won the Premier Division Fair Play Award in 2011 aswell, with the UCD Bowl been assessed and passing for UEFA League competition.

From memory and a scan on the internet UCD AFC have been awarded Fair Play Award regularly.

Fair Play Award: 2005, 2006 shared with Shelbourne FC, 2009 (First Division), 2011, 2012.

IT is a credit to the consistency of backroom staff to continue to instil Best Practice among the players to be able to perform at the highest level of Irish Football aswell as play in a generous and Sporting manner.  Our UCD FANS aswell deserve credit for scoring those positive points and not receiving too many negative points, this surely made all the difference over the years.
