David MacHugh, volunteer at UCD AFC presents a player review of the 2020 season so far.
Player ratings for the 2020 season by David MacHugh
Lorcan Healy-7.5 Starting off in goals we have Lorcan Healy who is an outstanding keeper. He very rarely makes mistakes and always makes key saves. The UCD defence can often make mistakes which make it harder for him but you can always be assured Lorcan will be there. Top class guy off the pitch as well.
Michael Gallagher-7.5 this is Michael’s first season playing for UCD and he has adapted very well in the right wing back position. He always puts in 110% and he is great going forward and defensively.
Josh Collins -7. Josh is a great defender on his day but he can be very on and off. He is one of the most senior players in the squad but he has lost his place in the team coming up to the end of the season. Josh is a great leader and seems like a great guy. He can lose his concentration at times but when he plays well, he’s very solid.
Harry McEvoy-7 Harry is a young lad and he’s adapted very well to playing at senior level. He’s so strong and puts in loads of challenges. He’s very vocal at the back and will always put in 100% effort.
Luke Boore-6 Luke hasn’t played that much but he’s come in for the last few games of the season and he’s done well. He hasn’t had enough game time to stand out. Luke is a strong centre back and will always put in hard challenges. Hopefully we will see more of him in the last few weeks of the season.
Evan Osam- 6.5 Evan has been with the club for a few years now, but he has been unlucky with injuries throughout his playing career so far. Evan has a lot of experience and he can play centre back or left back. He has a brilliant left foot and he has a lot of pace for a defender.
Evan Weir- 8 Evan is only 18 and doesn’t play every game but when he plays, he always plays to his best. Evan is an outstanding young player and has so much potential. He is a brilliant attacking fullback and he can also defend very well.
Mark Dignam-8 Mark is a very good player that’s been playing with the college for a few years now. He can play as a left back or a centre mid. Wherever he plays, he’ll always work as hard as he can. Mark is a very consistent player and he’s very good in attack and defensively.
Jack Keaney (captain)-8 Jack is captaining the college this year and he is a fantastic player and leader. Every game he leaves everything on the pitch. He can play in midfield and defence but his passing and tackling are his key aspects of his game. Jack is a brilliant defensive midfielder, and an even better captain.
Paul Doyle -8.5 Paul has been with UCD for a few years now, and every season he’s gotten better, he is one of the most consistent players on the team. He works his socks off every game and will leave everything on the pitch. He’s one of the standouts players this season.
Dara Keane-7.5 Dara is a brilliant midfielder and he brings so much quality to the game. Unfortunately Dara has a broken leg at the moment so he has missed a few months of the season. He reads the game so well and controls the midfield brilliantly. Hopefully we’ll see more of him soon.
Liam Kerrigan-9. Liam is an extremely talented young player, he can play as an attacking midfielder or on the wing. Liam’s one of the most exciting players in the league, and one of the most important players providing goals and assists. He has had a massive impact on the team this season.
Yoyo Mahdy-9.5 Yoyo is an outstanding striker. His finishing is incredible and he is good in the air as well. He has played in the Premier Division and First Division for UCD and he’s scored so many vital goals. His link up play with Colm Whelan has been exceptional this season. His pace and finishing are his strong points. He has a total of 13 goals this season which is incredible.
Colm Whelan 10- Player of the season: Colm is my UCD AFC player of the season. He has been absolutely exceptional every game and has scored so many amazing goals. He has also scored 13 goals in the league this season. He has everything you need as a striker, pace, strength, finishing. It’s his first season at UCD but he’s come in and has been the star player up front with Yoyo. His work rate off the ball is amazing. He is an outstanding young talent.
Andy Myler (Manager)-7. It’s Andy’s first season with the College and he’s had a lot of ups and downs. His side play exceptional football going forward and are one of the most exciting teams in the first division. It’s been a tough first year for him but hopefully he can bring The Students to the play offs with a chance of going back to the Premier Division.
